Memories

By Art Upshaw Jr.

I share with my kid brother, Andy, fond memories of a few fishing trips at your place. Circa 1958. We stayed at the house and I can still taste Mary's wonderful cooking . The fishing lure of the day was a ridiculous looking thing called a "PawPaw." At least 4 inches long, propellers at each end, covered with glitter, and three huge treble hooks. No fish in its right mind would hit such a thing, but your guide taught us how to lay it right up next to a stump, let it sit until the cows came home, and then give it a twitch. The fish weren't too smart because you know what happened next. A 12 year-old kid, with a lightweight spinning rig, 6 pound test line, and a 7 pound bass at the other end. I treasure those memories and thank you and your family for continuing the tradition.

Here's a snapshot.
